The Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) Equipment Report provides insight into the reliability and operational performance of individual equipment by analysing how long each piece of equipment remains operational before a fault occurs.

This report highlights performance extremes by displaying:

  • The top 100 best-performing pieces of equipment (longest time between failures).

  • The top 100 worst-performing pieces of equipment (shortest time between failures).

This report supports:

  • Measuring equipment reliability and operational performance.

  • Identifying frequently failing equipment or downtime-prone assets.

  • Supporting preventive maintenance and improvement planning.

  • Comparing performance across equipment, branches, or sites.

The report provides a clear, data-driven view of equipment reliability, helping teams focus on high-risk or high-value assets.

Getting There

When you need to run this report:

  • Open the Business Intelligence module.

  • Click Reports.

  • In the Reports window, navigate to the Equipment category.

  • Click the Mean Time To Failure Equipment Report module to open the report.

  • Add the desired filters (explained below), then click the Apply button to generate the report.

Available Filters and Their Impact

Use the filters at the top of the report to refine the dataset:

  • Period: Filters the report by the analysis timeframe. Determines which stoppage events are included in the MTTF calculation. Use longer periods for trend analysis and shorter periods for recent performance.

  • Branch: Filters the report by the branch (depot) where the equipment is located. Defaults to the branch selected in the main interface. Leave this blank to include all branches

Tabs Overview

The report is split into two tabs to compare performance extremes:

  • Best: Displays the top 100 equipment with the longest mean time between failures, indicating high reliability.

  • Worst: Displays the top 100 equipment with the shortest mean time between failures, highlighting frequent downtime.

Column Breakdown and Key Fields

Each row in the report represents a specific piece of equipment, ranked based on its Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) performance within the selected period.

Column Name

Description

Rank

Indicates the equipment’s position within the Best or Worst list based on MTTF performance

Equipment ID

Unique identifier of the equipment being analysed

No. of Calls Stopped

Total number of recorded stoppage or downtime events within the selected period

Mean Time To Failure: Hours

Average time (in hours) between stoppages, calculated as total uptime divided by the number of failures

Mean Time To Failure: hh:mm:ss

Same value as above, displayed in time format for easier interpretation

Insight: The higher the Mean Time To Failure, the more reliable the equipment. Conversely, a low MTTF indicates frequent breakdowns or instability, which may require investigation or preventive maintenance.

The Mean Time To Failure Equipment Report is a key tool for monitoring and improving equipment reliability.

Review this report on a monthly or quarterly basis to monitor trends, combine with reports such as Repeated Failures or Equipment On Service With Excess Usage for a more complete view of performance.
