The Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) Area Report provides insight into the operational reliability of different areas or zones by analysing how long they remain operational before experiencing a fault or downtime event.

This report is designed to highlight performance extremes by displaying:

  • The top 100 best-performing areas (longest time between failures).

  • The top 100 worst-performing areas (shortest time between failures).

This report supports:

  • Measuring reliability and operational performance across areas.

  • Identifying areas with frequent stoppages or downtime.

  • Supporting predictive maintenance and improvement planning.

  • Comparing performance across branches or sites for strategic review.

Whether used by maintenance planners, operations managers, or service analysts, this report provides a clear, data-driven view of reliability trends.

Getting There

When you need to run this report:

  • Open the Business Intelligence module.

  • Click Reports.

  • In the Reports window, navigate to the Equipment category.

  • Click the Mean Time To Failure Area Report module to open the report.

  • Add the desired filters (explained below), then click the Apply button to generate the report.

Available Filters and Their Impact

Use the filters at the top of the report to refine the displayed data and focus on specific operational scopes:

  • Period: Filters the report by the timeframe used for analysis. Determines which stoppage events are included in the MTTF calculation.

    • Use longer periods for trend analysis and shorter periods for recent performance.

  • Branch: Filters the report by the branch (depot) where the area is located. The report defaults to the branch selected in the main interface. Leave this blank to include all branches

Tabs Overview

The Mean Time To Failure Area Report includes two main tabs for easy comparison of performance extremes:

This report is split into two tabs to compare performance extremes:

  • Best: Displays the top 100 areas with the longest mean time between failures, indicating high reliability.

  • Worst: Displays the top 100 areas with the shortest mean time between failures, highlighting frequent downtime.

Column Breakdown and Key Fields

Each row in the report represents a specific area, ranked based on its Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) performance within the selected period.

Column Name

Description

Rank

Indicates the area’s rank within either the Best or Worst list, based on its mean time to failure performance.

Area

The name and description of the operational area being analysed.

No. of Calls Stopped

The number of recorded stoppage calls (or downtime incidents) for the area within the selected period.

Mean Time To Failure: Hours

The average time (in hours) between repair or stoppage events. Calculated as the total available time between failures divided by the number of stoppage calls.

Mean Time To Failure: hh:mm:ss

The same metric as above, displayed in a readable time format (hours:minutes:seconds) for easier interpretation.

Insight: The higher the Mean Time To Failure, the more reliable the area. Conversely, a low MTTF indicates frequent breakdowns or instability that may require investigation or preventive maintenance.

The Mean Time To Failure Area Report is a key tool for evaluating and improving operational uptime.

  • Review this report on a monthly or quarterly basis to monitor trends.

  • Combine with reports such as Repeated Failures or Equipment On Service With Excess Usage for a more complete view of performance
