Let's get started!
The Service Geeni Excel Add-in allows you to import Self Service Reporting data directly into Microsoft Excel using Power Query.
Once the data has been loaded, you can refresh it using Excel's standard refresh functionality, making it easy to keep reports up to date without recreating them.
Note: This tool is currently in beta. If you would like to join the trial, speak to your Customer Success contact. They will confirm your eligibility and provide the installer.
Before you start
Before you begin, ensure you have:
Microsoft Excel Desktop 2016 or later.
The Service Geeni Excel Add-in installed.

A Service Geeni API Key.
An API licence enabled for your tenant.
Note: If you do not have an API license or API key, speak to your Onboarding Consultant. Depending on your contract, additional licensing costs may apply.

Add Service Geeni Data to Excel Using The Add-in
To import Service Geeni data into Excel:
Open Microsoft Excel.
Select the Data tab.
Select Service Geeni.
Enter your Tenant URL.
Enter your API Key.
Select Load Entities.
Choose the Service Geeni entities you want to import.
Leave Load selected queries to worksheets selected if you would like Excel to automatically create worksheets for the imported data.
Select Add Selected Queries.
Excel creates native Power Query connections within the workbook. If worksheet loading is enabled, each query is also added as an Excel table.
Excel Security Warnings
When using the add-in for the first time, Microsoft Excel may display one or more security prompts.
Access Web Content: This is Excel checking the permissions to access; keep the selection as Anonymous and press Connect. Your data is secure; the API Key has already been passed into the query.
After the web security warning, you may be asked to specify Privacy levels:
Privacy Levels are a way for Microsoft to track data security to help keep business data secure; we recommend using either Private or Organisational for any data exported from your Self Service Reporting.
Refreshing Data
After the workbook has been created, you can refresh the imported data using Excel's standard refresh options.
For example:
Data > Refresh All
Right-click an Excel table and select Refresh.
Important Information
API Key Security
When the add-in creates the Excel queries, your API key is saved into the Excel workbook.
This means you should treat the workbook as sensitive. Only share it with people who are allowed to access the same Service Geeni data.
Power Query
The add-in creates standard Microsoft Power Query connections.
These are native Excel queries, allowing you to use Excel's built-in query editing and refresh functionality after the workbook has been created.
Self Service Reporting Data
The add-in uses the existing Self Service Reporting APIs.
Any data available through Self Service Reporting can also be imported using the Excel Add-in.
Improving Performance
By default, each query downloads all available records for the selected entity.
For larger datasets, this may increase refresh times.
To improve performance, use Server-side Filters when creating your queries. This limits the amount of data downloaded from Service Geeni and can significantly reduce refresh times.
