Purpose of the Report
The Repair Root Cause Heatmap dashboard is designed to help users quickly identify the most common failure causes across repair-related jobs. By visually breaking down issues through a hierarchical treemap, users can analyse trends, recurring problems, and equipment-specific patterns. This enables quicker decision-making, supports proactive maintenance strategies, and highlights areas where training or process improvement may be needed.
How to Access the Dashboard
From the main navigation menu, select the Self Service module.
Open the All Standard Dashboards folder.
Locate Repair Root Cause Heatmap.
Click Preview to open the dashboard.
Apply any desired filters. The dashboard will automatically refresh based on the filters selected.
Dashboard Filters & Descriptions
The dashboard includes several filters to help narrow down results based on equipment attributes and time periods. Adjusting these filters will update all visualisations on the dashboard, ensuring that insights reflect the exact subset of jobs you want to analyse.
Date Filter
Type: Date range selector
Default Value: Last 7 days from the current date
Quick Ranges:
Last 7 Days
Last 28 Days
Description: Controls the time window for the jobs included in the report. Selecting a wider or narrower date range will adjust the number of jobs displayed in the treemap and details table.
Equipment ID
Type: Text box
Description: Filters the dataset to only include jobs associated with a specific Equipment ID. Useful when investigating recurring issues on a known asset.
Equipment Make
Type: Drop-down
Description: Filters results by the manufacturer of the equipment. Select an Equipment Make to compare root causes across brands or to analyse performance of a specific manufacturer.
Equipment Model
Type: Drop-down
Description: Displays only jobs associated with a selected Equipment Model. Ideal for diagnosing model-specific issues or comparing performance variations between models.
Equipment Type
Type: Drop-down
Description: Allows filtering by equipment classification (e.g., vehicle type, machinery type). Applying this filter helps focus analysis on particular categories of equipment.
Treemap Chart (Root Cause Heatmap)
The treemap is the central visualisation of this dashboard.
How It Works
Displays Root Cause Level 1 categories as large coloured blocks.
The size of each block represents the total number of jobs related to that root cause.
Users can drill down up to five levels (Root Cause 1 → Root Cause 5) by clicking on the blocks.
When drilling down, all other dashboard components update automatically, allowing deeper exploration of root cause patterns.
Use Case Examples
Identify the top recurring first-level root causes.
Investigate underlying sub-causes within any main category.
Compare patterns across different equipment attributes using filters.
Insight IQ Panel
The Insight IQ section automatically displays information derived directly from the treemap chart.
What It Provides
Summary insights related to the selected portion of the treemap.
Highlights of the most common issues.
Key indicators helping users interpret the significance of each root cause category.
When you drill into the treemap, the Insight IQ panel updates to reflect the specific root cause level selected.
Column Field Definitions (Data Table)
Below are the key data fields displayed in the supporting detail table:
Column Name | Description |
Branch | The branch or location responsible for the job. |
Job Number | Unique identifier assigned to each repair job. |
TimeStamp | Date/time when the job was recorded or actioned, depending on configuration. |
Equipment ID | Identifier for the equipment involved in the job. |
Equipment Make | Manufacturer of the equipment. |
Equipment Model | Specific model of the equipment. |
Equipment Type | Classification/category of the equipment. |
Root Cause 1 | The primary/root cause category assigned to the job. |
Root Cause 2 | Secondary level detail of the underlying cause. |
Root Cause 3 | Third-level breakdown of the cause. |
Root Cause 4 | Fourth-level detail for further granularity. |
Root Cause 5 | Fifth and final level of cause classification (deepest level of analysis). |
Final Remarks
The Repair Root Cause Heatmap dashboard is a powerful analysis tool for understanding equipment failures at multiple levels. By combining filter controls, hierarchical visualisation, and drill-down capability, it provides meaningful insights that support operational improvement, reduce downtime, and enhance maintenance planning.
Users are encouraged to regularly review the dashboard to track emerging trends and ensure quick response to any recurring issues identified.
