What is SendGrid

SendGrid is used as an email delivery service, this allows for seamless communication between Service Geeni and your Customers (as an example).

Using SendGrid within Service Geeni for email reporting, the Email register using a SendGrid and Service Geeni custom connection that fetches data from SendGrid and populates your email register with information like success rates.

How it works

We register to the SendGrid platform which enables your system to send out emails from Service Geeni on your behalf.

Setup

Once this is setup on your DNS records you will be able to send out emails from Service Geeni and they will look to come for your company. We need security in place hence why we need to enable SendGrid at both ends.

Service Geeni Support will give you the strings to be added. Your IT support team may need to be involved here to complete the setup.

Why we use SendGrid

We use it because it provides monitoring of success for the reporting in the Email Register in Service Geeni. We use SendGrid because it provides monitoring of success of email delivery for reporting which is used in the Email Register in Service Geeni.

SendGrid Email Event Webhook Overview

Understanding how your emails are processed and engaged with is crucial for a successful email program. SendGrid’s Event Webhook provides valuable insights through nine key email events:

  1. Processed – Fires when SendGrid receives and prepares an email for delivery. This event occurs for all emails unless dropped.

  2. Dropped – Indicates when an email is not delivered due to issues like spam content or unsubscribes.

  3. Deferred – Occurs when an email can’t be delivered immediately but isn’t rejected. SendGrid will try for 72 hours before blocking the email.

  4. Bounce – Fires when a message can’t be delivered due to invalid or outdated email addresses.

  5. Delivered – Occurs when an email is accepted by the receiving server. Note that it doesn't confirm inbox delivery.

  6. Open – Tracks when an email is viewed with images turned on, using a transparent image beacon.

  7. Click – Tracks when a recipient clicks on a link in your email, marking strong engagement.

  8. Spam Report – Fires when an ISP flags your email as spam, allowing you to take action.

  9. Unsubscribe – Triggers when a recipient unsubscribes, helping you maintain list hygiene and improve engagement.

These events help you monitor and improve your email program.
