Let's discover what an Equipment Type is!

An Equipment Type is a way of categorising equipment that shares similar functions or characteristics, helping to organise and distinguish between different types of equipment.

Type Enquiry helps you set up Equipment Types. Each Type can have one or more models linked to it. Equipment records are connected to an Equipment type through these models. You can create custom specifications at the type level, and any equipment linked to this type will automatically include these specs.

You can also set up default service schedules for each type, which can be included in service contracts. The type field is available on the Equipment Enquiry screen, making it easy to filter and sort equipment.

Getting There

  • You can manage equipment types via the Equipment Menu and selecting Type Enquiry.

Navigating the Equipment Type page

The menu system, search, and filtering work the same for all Service Geeni pages.

Add an Equipment Type

Now that you are in the Equipment Type module, you can see all the current equipment types, edit them and create new ones.

  • To create a new equipment type, click the Add Equipment Type button.

  • When the editor window opens, fill out the form.

  • Type: This is where you can add a descriptive name for the equipment type, such as Hand-Held Petrol Operated Tools.

  • Standard Service Price: This is the price you will charge the customer for a standard service for this type of equipment.

  • Skills Required: Some equipment types require specialist skills. You can click on the ellipse and select the required skills to service this equipment type.

    • You can also create new Engineer Skills by clicking the Add button.

  • From the list, you can select one or more skills.

  • Finally, click Select to confirm.

Default Service Sequences

Default Service Sequences are predefined steps or an order of tasks in your service process designed to standardise and streamline workflows for consistency and efficiency. In this example, a Job of Works.

  • Click Add new sequence.

  • Sequences are a way of managing your servicing by equipment type.

Editing

Editing an Equipment type couldn't be easier:

  • Click the Edit icon via the Action Tray to edit the equipment type.

  • You can also deactivate an equipment type with the deactivate button.

Deleting / Removing

To remove an equipment type from the equipment list.

  • Click on the Deactivate button.

Equipment Model

Any Equipment Model that has been assigned to an Equipment Type will remain with the type until a new Equipment Type is selected against the Model.

To do this:

  • Navigate to Equipment Model module via the Equipment menu.

  • From the list, select a Model Type and click the Edit icon via the Action Tray.

  • Click on the ellipses next to the Equipment Type field to select the new type or edit the current one.

Remember that when changing the detail in an equipment type, it will change this information (record) for every equipment and model that has been allocated this Equipment Type.

Within the Equipment model screen, you cannot activate/deactivate an equipment type, this needs to be done on the Type Enquiry screen.

Show Deactivated Types

  • You can click the checkbox to view all Deactivated Equipment types.

  • If you need to reactivate one, you can do so by clicking the Activate icon via the Action Tray.
